Too Much Sex on TV? Really?

As most American parents are complaining, there is too much sex on TV. I disagree, and I challenge all of them to watch at least 1 foreign film (Anatomy of Hell, to be extreme) and see if they still feel the same way. What is shown in America is PG compared to what is in French films and other films from Europe. Lately I have been watching more foreign films then I ever have before, and to everyone but Americans (it seems), sex is art. Just yesterday I watched a film from Holland called the Fourth Man (remade in America by the same director, known as Basic Instinct). Basic Instinct, which is a pretty raunchy film doesn't compare to the raunch in the original. It's becoming more and more obvious to me that we hold back, we are scared to look into sex as an art form (and I'm not talking about porn, let's be mature). Granted, these movies make me a tad uncomfortable, and I'd never watch them with a parent, but they are still good movies none the less. Have we become too conservative? Or are we protecting ourselves from obscenity?

Tattoo's: Art or Not?

Tattoo's have been around for hundreds of years; today they are more popular than ever. But the question is, are they artistic or are they not? I could go into the history of tattoo's and there meanings but it has nothing to do with the tattoo's people get today. I go to art school, and having a tattoo is almost as common as having a school i.d. I have two tattoo's myself, I would like to get more but I will be murdered by my mother if I do. Like a drug, tattoo's can be very addicting, but where is the line drawn between beautiful and obscenity. We've all seen the ridiculous tattoo's that make us think "who would possibly want that on them for the rest of there lives." But what about the tributes to a passed on mother, or a phrase that helped one get through a hard time.Personally, I love tattoo's, I love to see all the different kinds people have despite whatever meaning they have. I think that it's a great form of art; however, not every tattoo I see would I want for myself (but that's just common sense). So, art or not? You decide.

Goo Goo for Gaga

Lady Gaga, if you don't know who she is, you must live under a rock. I found out about Gaga a year and a half ago when they were comparing her and Christina Aguilera (although I think Christina Aguilera is in a league of her own). In my humble opinion I think that she is the most successful, influential, controversial and fastest rising star in the past year. As much as I like Beyonce and Taylor Swift, being artistic and original is Lady Gaga's forte. Lady Gaga pushed the limits of fashion and brought a whole new flavor to music, something that has been missing since the Britney, Christina era. From collaborating with Beyonce, to showing us her vocal skills in a song like speechless, Lady Gaga proves she has staying power; that in 20 years she will still be relevant. Of course, with success, comes haters; but very few people can say that Lady Gaga hasn't had an influence on them in any way. We have all rocked out to a Gaga song, wore something because it was fashion forward like Gaga, or just took a peek to see what all the fuss is about. As a matter of fact she is being compared to and even being called the new Madonna, a title which I find very fitting. It's hard to break out and be consistent, none the less get more and more intriguing as you go on. No matter what people think about her, not one of us can say that Lady gaga hasn't gotten a reaction out of us, because she has. She is not afraid to be who she is or do what she wants. Lady Gaga does not push boundaries, she breaks them down.

When two Diva's Collaborate

In the middle of production, a movie plenty have heard about by now, Burlesque is something I look forward to seeing. For those of you a little slow on the uptake, it's a movie starring Christina Aguilera and Cher (Diva alert) about a small town girl (Christina Aguilera) who head's to LA and becomes the head dancer at a Burlesque club run by a former dancer in danger of losing the club (Cher). Christina Aguilera is my all time favorite singer and in my eyes anything she touches turns to gold. However, having common sense and being a film student, I was apprehensive about her trying her hand at acting, but the more I thought about it, I realized she isn't someone who jumps into something. She doesn't release an album every year, she works in the studio for a long time until it's perfected. This movie is also a musical, so it's not a huge stretch for her. Most obviously, the movie stars Cher; if anyone is the poster girl for singer turn Oscar winning actress, it's her. The film also stars Stanley Tucci, Cam Gigandet, Kristen Bell among others. It's due out November 2010, I will most definitely be seeing it, will you?

Blogging About The Queen of Blogging

Perez Hilton, it's a name most of us know, and a site most of us have visited. He's got a lot of followers and a lot of haters. People say he's a loser and he has no life, last time I checked, he's got more of a life then most of us. Yes his job is to blog about celebrities, but let's be honest, who wouldn't want to blog all day and chill with celebrities at parties. He's got his biases, but don't we all; I happen to love Jennifer Aniston (he calls her Maniston, which I do not appreciate), yet I continue to go to his site everyday to see what's going on in the magical world of celebrityland. He's opinionated for sure, but it's his blog. If you don't want to hear it, there's a little red X button at the top right of your screen. Give the guy credit, he made a name for himself by himself and he's even written books. He's got his own website that gets probably millions of hits a day, shit I'd do it too. It's a great thing when people listen to you, and he takes advantage of it... so kudos Perez Hilton.

Creativity: Easier Said Than Done

The one major issue that I have with my school, is that they try to force creativity, "please write a script in one week and prepare to shoot it the following week." It is not something that can be forced, it's something that comes to you when you are inspired. Some of the worst scripts I write are scripts that are on a deadline. Inspiration is my biggest enemy at times, I want to write yet I have nothing to say. I want to draw yet I have nothing to draft. It's a timeless battle than can only be won by waiting it out. But, inspiration is all around us, we just have to open our eyes to see it. However, like the above title has already stated, easier said than done.

Business News

I along with two friends that I attend school with, have decided to go into business and create a production company called Pink Raccoon Productions. This company will be in conjunction with a production company called vudupins. We are in the preliminary stages but stay tuned, shortly we will have a link to our website where you can learn more about us and our work.

My last and final thoughts on the movie Precious

Over the past few months that this movie has been released, I have heard various feelings and opinions on the movie. Some I agree with, some I disagree with, while others are completely ignorant. I'm not saying that you have to love this movie, but there are things that people need to understand. This movie is in no way shape or form, stereotypical. It's a movie about a situation that happened to a girl, thats it. It has nothing to do with the fact that she is black, it deals with the fact that she is poor and abused... she just happens to be black. The story is heartbreaking and real, it could happen to a white person, black person, hispanic person etc. Some people live in a fairytale world where in there minds something like this could not possibly happen, but it does. An article was brought to my attention in my philosophy class in which the writer states "white people see this movie because of white guilt." That may possibly be the most nonsensical thing I have ever heard. People try to delve too deep into the movie instead of taking it for what it is. My philosophy teacher (who I believe is borderline retarded) even had the nerve to say "so everytime I see an obese black girl, I'm supposed to assume she's sleeping with her father," this conversation really got on my nerves because he, nor the rest of my class had seen this movie and yet they sit there and make assumptions. Everyone should see the movie and decide for themselves before they jump to conclusions. In my opinion it's a good movie, and I reccomend it to anybody.

R.I.P. Alexander McQueen

Sad news in the world of fashion, and art for that matter, Alexander McQueen has committed suicide. He was a true visionary and so inspirational. This is a big hit to the fashion industry only a week away from the famous fashion week. His huge talent and success will forever be missed. Ladies and gentlemen, there is nothing bad enough in this world that you should kill yourself. Life is always worth living, don’t throw something so precious away.
